Ranchers, packers are on opposite sides of the fence as dwindling herds are 
fetching top dollar

For the moment, ranchers like Gary Price are riding high in a beef industry 
rudely buffeted by the Dec. 23 discovery of a single case of mad cow disease in 
Washington state, the first in the United States.
Usually, it's cattlemen who complain about the raw deal they claim to get 
from an industry dominated by several huge meat-processing companies.
But not now.
