AR-News: (US AL) Incidents Allegedly Linked to ELF, ALF

The FBI says the Earth Liberation Front has caused more than $100 million in 
damage since 1996. Some prominent attacks tied to the group and its sister 
organization, the Animal Liberation Front:

- March 2004: Graduate student Billy Cottrell pleaded not guilty to charges 
he took part in vandalism spree that damaged or destroyed 125 sport utility 
vehicles in Los Angeles area last August. According to FBI affidavit, Cottrell 
contacted Los Angeles Times by e-mail claiming involvement and signed e-mails 
ELF.

- August 22, 2003: Two men filmed in surveillance videotape in $2.5 million 
vandalism and arson spree that targeted SUVs at Los Angeles-area car 
dealerships. Slogans such as "Fat, Lazy Americans" and "I (heart) pollution" painted on 
vehicles.
