Phytopharm, the biotechnology group that specialises in commercialising plant
remedies, turned to man's best friend for its first sales yesterday when

it launched an eczema drug for dogs.
Phytopica, developed from Asian plants, can be sprinkled on a dog's food, and
is palatable enough to generate "excellent canine compliance", according to
the firm. It will start marketing the drug to vets immediately, at £2 a day for
a large dog.
Dog eczema affects 900,000 animals in Britain, and analysts estimate the
total market for treatment could be £10m a year, and as much as £100m worldwide.
