LONDON (AP) - Monty's Pass aims to become the first horse since Red Rum 30
years ago to win back-to-back Grand Nationals on Saturday.

How many of the 40 starters survive the world's most gruelling
steeplechase could be just as significant. First run in 1837, the 4½-mile
slog over 30 tall fences and ditches is a struggle to stay upright. Since
the Second World War, 33 horses have died, including one last year and two
in 2002. Animal rights activists often try to disrupt the race. Racegoers
say that, by frightening the horses, the protesters make the situation worse.
