If you were going to get a new puppy, where would you go? Let's say you've 
had it on your heart to get a specific breed of dog. You've read a lot about 
that breed and think it would be a good fit for your household. Now you need 
to find one. And that's where a reputable breeder comes in.

Reputable breeders are a special class of people. They don't mass produce 
dogs for sale. They don't sell to pet stores. They know the health and 
temperament of the dogs they breed and work to create affectionate, healthy 
animals. They may have one litter a year or two years - or even more rarely. 
They don't have an overwhelming number of dogs. They will let you see their 
facilities and meet their dogs.

That sets them apart from backyard breeders or puppy mills, which raise dogs 
for profit. Talking to these reputable breeders, you'll find they don't make 
a lot of money from their work. Their goal is to make great dogs and find 
excellent homes for them.
