A MAN who left two horses in a paddock without food or water during the
height of drought found himself in court recently.
Sixty-two-year-old Gordon John Dicker, of Finlay Road, Goulburn, appeared in
Goulburn Local Court on charges of failing to provide proper and sufficient
food to an animal, and being in charge of an animal and failing to provide
veterinary treatment. He pleaded guilty to all charges.
Police facts tendered to the court stated that when an RSPCA officer arrived
at the scene, there was no water or feed in the paddock.
The elder horse was too weak to get up and showed pronounced emaciation, so
that the ribs and pelvis bones were prominent. The horse was destroyed by
firearm on the spot.
A second, younger horse was given food and water and moved, where it has
since recovered.
