AR-News: (UK) Vet who let nurse do op had a drink habit

A veterinary surgeon who allowed a nurse to operate on a cat at his Telford 
practice had started drinking heavily after his partner moved to London, a 
disciplinary hearing has been told. 
Gordon Lonsdale had been suffering problems with alcohol after leaving London 
where he had lived as a gay man and moving to Telford, where he was a 
straight bachelor to his clients at the Oakville Veterinary Surgery at Lawley Bank. 
At the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons disciplinary hearing in London 
yesterday Mr Lonsdale admitted failing to provide adequate professional care 
after a pet cat had all her teeth removed at the surgery in Station Road two 
years ago. 
He accepted that permitting nurse Rachel Horton to practice veterinary 
surgery amounted to disgraceful professional conduct.
