Dear Editor:
I read the article in Thursday's paper about the heartbreaking story of Max,
the dog that belonged to the Long family on Pope road. Friday night, I saw
this family's story on WLEX Channel 18 news. This story really touched my heart,
and I feel very sorry for what this family has been through. I personally know
what it is like to lose a cherished part of your extended family. Losing our
dog to cancer was a very difficult to do, but to lose one in such a horrifying
and senseless manner as the Long family had to, would have to be ten times
worse.
I won't say that I feel the owner purposely intended for his dog to escape
and kill his neighbor's dog, however, fact is, it did! What if this dog had
attacked the Long's child instead of their dog? What then? Would he not have been
held accountable?
