AR-News: (US) Zoo prepares for new arrival

TOLEDO, Ohio - MJ bellies up to the bars, her round, hairy abdomen awaiting 
the ministrations of the ultrasound lady. 
The 23-year-old orangutan at the Toledo Zoo knows what Connie Warner should 
do, and Warner dutifully complies. She dabs blue gel on the end of a 
transducer, putting it to MJ's tummy. 
MJ would now like a treat. Then another ultrasound, thank you. Then perhaps 
another treat. 
This is not what's supposed to be happening. Kutai, peering out from the edge 
of the doorway, needs her belly scanned. She's pregnant. If she would slide 
over for a scan, crackers and juice would be hers. 
Keepers, the veterinary staff, and Warner, a certified sonographer, have 
watched Kutai's baby each week since it was a 1-1/2-inch bundle of cells. It will 
be the first orangutan born at the zoo in 14 years.
