{2} WHY, OH WHY, WYETH PHARMACEUTICALS ARE YOU ABANDONING YOUR PMU HORSES TO
THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE?

Stop Premarin! Stop Horse Slaughter!

Go Vegan Texas!
with guests Sinikka Crosland, TRACS, The Responsible Animal Care Society
and Dr. Ray Kellosalmi, family physician and horse rescuer

Today at noon (EST, 5 p.m. Greenwich) 90.1 FM-Houston and 89.5 FM-Galveston

http://www.GoVeganTexas.org or http://www.KPFT.org

"The amount of horses needed (by Wyeth) went from 40,000 to 20,000
overnight. With the stroke of a pen, thousands of (PMU) horses became a
huge drain on the ranchers' time and effort. These are pregnant horses now,
and the only place they are going to is feed lots, and from there, to
slaughter." ~ Dr. Ray Kellosami, horse rescuer, Dateline NBC - January 18,
2004

"What we are witnessing is yet another bloodbath, this time of PMU mares,
adding to the annual foal genocide which has taken place for decades. We are
calling for the drug company, Wyeth, to take responsibility in helping these
mares so that they are not slaughtered. It is the very least they can do
after being responsible for these animals being turned into four-legged drug
machines for over half a century." ~ Susan Wagner, president, Equine
Advocates

"It is an expensive process, buying one truckload of Premarin horses (in
Canada) at a time and bringing them down (to the US) to be adopted. You
never say to yourself, I've saved 50 horses. You always say I had to leave
50 behind. " ~ Helen Meredith, United Pegasus Foundation, Dateline NBC -
January 18, 2004

³Wyeth has profited for more than 60 years on the backs of these animals.
These horses deserve a more fitting end to their Œservice¹ than a feedlot or
slaughterhouse, which will be the plight for the vast majority of them.² ~
Martha Armstrong, Humane Society of the United States

³Over 3,000,000 horses have been slaughtered in the last ten years, most by
foreign-owned slaughterhouses in the United States and Canada to supply the
overseas meat market. The PMU industry is a major supplier of this horse
flesh.² ~United Animal Nations

Wyeth Labs made the stunning announcement a few months ago to cancel
contracts with many ranchers in Canada whose horses provide the
pharmaceutical giant with Pregnant Mares Urine (PMU) for Premarin, the
world's most widely prescribed drug.

With the decreased demand for Premarin, once disturbing health consequences
to women were announced in a 2003 NIH study, there was a great need to find
homes for the thousands of horses that were no longer being needed for the
production of Premarin.

We will discuss what this cutback means for both the tortured horses who
spent most of their lives restrained in small stalls to collect their urine
and for menopausal women who face great health risks from taking this drug
... this morning with our guests, Dr. Ray Kellosalmi a family practioner and
horse rescurer, and his sister, Sinikka Crosland, a registered nurse, both
living in British Columbia, both animal rights activists.

Dr. Kellosalmi s known around the world as the "Horse Rescurer" because he
purchases mares and foals at auction in Canada where most of the Premarin
farms are located, saves as many as possible from the slaughter house
buyers, and keeps them in his horse sanctuary until he finds suitable homes
for them.

Sinikka is the president and co founder of TRACS, The Responsible Animal
Care Society, an acttive member of the Women's Health and Ethics Coalition
and has an animal sanctuary for a wide variety of animals, including two
horses, one a PMU which Dr. Ray outbid killer buyers for at a recent
auction.

They are returning to Go Vegan Texas! today for an UPDATE on the ongoing
campaign with Wyeth Labs to take responsibility for their PMU horses.
Vivian Farrell President of Houston-based The Fund for Horses, a horse
protection organization, and a member of the Go Vegan Texas! Collective's
Committee on Animal Rights, will guest host this week's show
