AR-News: (US-oh)PAWS' concern allows animals longer lives

MIDDLETOWN | A Middletown nonprofit agency has an unusual and very
challenging clientele — its guests are needy, messy and don't always get
along with each other.

They're the dogs and cats of Progressive Animal Welfare Society,
Middletown's animal adoption center. PAWS is a rare no-kill shelter, where
the animals are not euthanized. The PAWS no-kill philosophy is so
well-known that it has customers from as far away as Adams County.

Director Peggy Landis came to the shelter about 10 years ago, answering a
PAWS ad for a "puppy person." The job was a boon for an animal lover, she
said.
