BEIJING, March 26 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 30,000 wild birds were set
free during a nationwide crackdown on illegal fowling launched by the State
Forestry Administration (SFA) on March 21.
The SFA told Xinhua Friday that 1,148 cases of illegal fowling were put
down during the action while 32,617 wild birds, 723 of which are rare ones, and
10,233 wild animals were rescued by the administrations.
Wild birds, especially migrant birds, are still endangered by illegal
fowling, the SFA spokesman said.
Some people poisoned and cast nets to capture wild birds in their
habitats or during their migration, and some restaurants violated the laws against
selling wild birds, he said.
The country will continue carrying out actions against illegal fowling,
selling and buying of wild birds when the weather warms and the migration
season comes, he added. Enditem
