The man charged with beating a kitten to the brink of death pleaded not
guilty yesterday. Calgarian John Peters entered his plea during a brief
appearance in provincial court downtown.
He's charged with two counts of animal cruelty in the case of Dakota, a
six-month old tabby who arrived last month at the Humane Society suffering
a variety of serious injuries.
Peters' lawyer said outside court his client is an animal lover who, along
with his common-law wife, want their pet back.
"I see no connection between Mr. Peters and these charges," said Brian
Warrington.
Humane Society officials were also in court, and they stand by their
claims the cat was abused.
