Professor Kirkwood says there is an obsession with weight management in 
nutrition when the emphasis should be on the management of health. Research showing 
that half-starving mice and rats adds to their lifespan can't be taken to 
mean very skinny human beings are at an advantage. What such research probably 
shows, he says, is that small animals have evolved to cope with times of bad 
famine.
