VANCOUVER - The British Columbia SPCA is seeking cruelty charges against a
Delta resident accused of bludgeoning a Dalmatian on the head and throwing it in
the Fraser River.
The 7-year-old dog was discovered alive 10 days later, and was rushed to a
veterinary hospital. It underwent extensive surgery and is now recovering in an
SPCA foster home.
Michelle Rodgers, the branch manager at the Richmond/Delta SPCA, says she's
amazed the dog survived.
"There was a large wound on the top of his head," she says. "It was right in
the centre of his skull, and it was split basically almost in half. And it
needed to be repaired as soon as possible."
