THERE'S one hell of a cat fight brewing in Caloundra.
While a council-funded program has been introduced to tackle feral cat
problems at beachside suburbs, a hinterland resident has been told she faces charges
of more than $100 to get a single cat cage delivered.
Caloundra City Council has just introduced a stray cat management program in
the Happy Valley-Bulcock Beach precinct which will see cats impounded if they
cannot be identifed as pets.
But when Landsborough's Heather Gowen asked to speak to the council ranger to
report that a feral cat was killing wildlife near her home, she was told it
would cost her $6.75 a week to hire a cage, $54.60 refundable bond and $56.20
delivery charge , a total of $117.55.
"I have no problem paying for the hire and bond,'' Ms Gowen said.
"I do have a problem with paying the delivery charge of $56.20.
I am 74 years old and can't get down to Caloundra to pick up the cage.
