TANAH MERAH, KELANTAN, Thurs: 




THE Kelantan Wildlife Department detained a van driver and seized 670 kg of 
monitor lizard meat during an operation at Kampung Panglima Bayu, here, early 
today. 
A spokesman said the man, in his 40s, was travelling towards Tanah Merah when 
it was stopped by the department's team about 4am.

"The team spotted a van and decided to follow it for awhile before stopping 
it.

"After inspecting the vehicle, they found 15 gunny sacks containing the 
meat," he said.

He said initial investigation showed that the meat was smuggled into the 
state.

"We believed it is for distribution locally," he said.

The spokesman said the man was being held for further action under the 
Wildlife Act.
