Notorious elephant poacher jailed in Nguti for illegal hunting. 
The dragnet of the Anti-poaching Committee of the Ministry of the Environment 
and Forestry and the wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) recently fell on 
Daniel Besong Nkwo alias Bokande for having the guts to hunt ion the Banyang Mbo 
Wildlife Sanctuary.
 
The Court of First Instance in Nguti, Kupe-Muanenguba last March 11, 2004 
sentenced him to two years Imprisonment and one million frs fine for illegally 
killing class A protected elephants in the said sanctuary. Bokande was also 
found guilty of not being in possession of a Cameroonian Identity card on his 
arrest. For this, he was fined 50,000 frs or serve a prison term of six months. He 
was also asked to pay court costs for 100,000 frs or undergo a confinement of 
six months. The court however, found him not guilty on two counts: possession 
of illegal firearms and threat of life on WCS Project Director.
