Death sparks debate on killing wildlifenear families' homes

The fatal shooting of a bear cub late last week has raised several questions 
about how residents in forested Nevada County can co-exist with potentially 
dangerous wildlife. 

Ed Batista was sitting on his porch at his Banner Mountain residence Friday 
afternoon when a bear cub ran into his yard. The cub had been shot in the rear 
minutes earlier by a neighbor on the 15000 block of Banner Quaker Hill Road, 
he said.

 "I heard the shot and the bear moaning," Batista said. "Then it made it's 
way up a tree."
