AR-News: (US FL) Port St. Lucie boosts fines for several offenses

PORT ST. LUCIE -- City council members clamped down on three of residents' 
biggest complaints Monday night, stiffening fines for owners of vicious dogs and 
littered construction sites and limiting the time houses being moved can sit 
atop concrete blocks.
After years of extolling the need for more teeth in animal laws, council 
members voted unanimously to levy a first-time fine of $250 for a pet owner whose 
animal seriously injures a person, and $500 for a second attack. The animal 
may be confiscated after the first or second attack, Deputy City Manager Victor 
Granello said, and animal control officers can place restrictions on an animal 
even if a bite does not result in severe injury or death of another animal or 
person.
