Animal Cruelty Charges Laid Over Dog

Charges have formally been laid against the man accused of dragging a dog 
behind a car in Northland. 

The SPCA is accusing the man of wilfully ill-treating a dog and failing to 
provide veterinary treatment for it. 

It is claimed the German shepherd-huntaway cross, Tipa, was being punished 
for running away. 

SPCA spokesman Jim Boyd says he is trying to track down the owner to summons 
him to appear in the Kaikohe District Court but the man has gone into hiding. 

He says Tipa is recovering remarkably well considering what he has gone 
through.
