Help ... RSPCA shelter manager Claire Howard says volunteers are at an
all-time low.

We need you!

Whyalla's RSPCA shelter will be in dire straits unless more volunteers are
found to help with fundraising and other tasks.
According to shelter manager Claire Howard, RSPCA volunteers are at an
all-time low, with only seven volunteers at present and six of these are RSPCA
committee members.
"Volunteer numbers have been dwindling in the past few years," Claire said.
"When I started 13 years ago, we had 25 volunteers.
"We immensely rely on them."
Although the RSPCA staff are paid, they also give up a lot of their free time
in order to keep the shelter open, Claire said.
Making things worse for the RSPCA is that their funding has been cut, meaning
they need to do more fundraising activities - something that is impossible
without the help of volunteers.
"It is getting very desperate because our funding has been cut down and we
need to do more fundraising to keep ourselves alive," Claire said.
"Without money the shelter will close."
The RSPCA's biggest fundraising event of the year, their annual doorknock,
will be held between April 17 and 25.
