AR-News: (UK) Clearer Food Labelling Urged

Food should be labelled more clearly so consumers can tell where the product 
is from and to what standards it was produced, the Government was urged today.

Tory Richard Bacon (Norfolk S) called in the Commons for “clearer, more 
accurate and more honest information”.

Under current laws, he said, lambs raised in France and slaughtered in the UK 
can be labelled “product of Britain”.

Producers can legally add a Union flag and phrases such as “great British 
recipes” to packets of imported meat.

UK farmers “must observe some of the highest animal welfare standards in the 
world.
