AR-News: (UK) Hungry Bull Seal Must Be Culled Says Gun Plea Fisherman

Police today said they had refused to grant a fisherman a gun licence so that 
he can shoot a seal which he says is threatening his livelihood.

But officers may allow the seal to be culled by a marksman if evidence is 
produced to satisfy them that it is necessary.

The fisherman, who has not been named by police, works off Essex and says the 
bull seal is taking fish from his nets.

The seal is thought to be part of a colony of harbour or common seals in the 
Pyefleet Channel near East Mersea, Essex.

The RSPCA said it hoped the problem could be solved without the seal being 
killed.
