Dear vet, Should I be worried about my cat? I have noticed that he is weeing
blood in his litter tray, but he is eating, and is generally in good health.
Any advice?
Dear Tilly
You need to get your cat to the vets as soon as you can.
Cystitis or inflammation of the bladder can cause blood in the urine.
This may be due to an external infection, but can also result from a physical
condition, such as urinary retention or bladder stones.
As he is a male cat, untreated symptoms like this may lead to a blocked
bladder - a very serious condition.
Make sure water is available for him to drink at all time, and make an
appointment as soon as you can.
The symptoms of a blocked bladder include frequent crouching and straining to
urinate, with little or no urine passed.
The cat may cry in pain when picked up, be lethargic, off their food and may
even be sick.
