Parklander staff
Hinton Parklander — Two men from Medicine Hat were assessed $6,400 in fines
in Hinton Provincial Court March 10.
Robert Fox, 48, and Neil Fox, 27, were found guilty of hunting bighorn sheep
during a closed season, providing false and misleading information to wildlife
officers, abandonment of big game and unlawful possession of wildlife.
Judge J.W. Mustard assessed Robert Fox a $2,900 fine plus a one-year
recreational license suspension. Judge Mustard assessed Neil Fox a $3,500 plus a
two-year recreational license suspension. Neil Fox has a previous history of
wildlife infractions, noted by Judge Mustard in sentencing.
During a daylong trial, March 10, three civilian witnesses and three wildlife
officers testified.
Court heard that on October 31, 2003, wildlife officers from Hinton were
notified via the Report A Poacher phone line that two bighorn sheep may have been
harvested illegally on mine property closed to hunting near Cadomin.
