GREIG CAMERON

ANIMAL welfare officers are investigating the bizarre deaths of a number of
white rabbits which were released in to the wild after being daubed with orange
paint along their backs.

The animals were abandoned in a field near to the IBM factory in Greenock
earlier this month, where seven were attacked and killed by foxes.

Only one of the domesticated rabbits, which had all been branded with an
unusual orange stripe, survived the ordeal and is being cared for at the Cardonald
Cat and Dog home in Glasgow.

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) was
alerted to the incident after receiving a tip-off about a man, woman and boy
releasing the rabbits from a sack, and went along to investigate.
