AR-News: (UK) Animal rights protest to target Oxford lab

Animal rights protesters said yesterday that they plan to target a new 
research laboratory at Oxford University as an extension to their campaign which 
forced primate experimentation at Cambridge to be scrapped.
A university spokesman confirmed yesterday that an £18 million science 
facility currently being built at Oxford would use animals for testing. He insisted 
that work would not be delayed by the threat of civil disobedience and 
intimidation by anti-vivisection protesters. 
A coalition of animal rights groups said Oxford would become the new focus of 
their campaign after plans for a multi-million-pound laboratory at Cambridge 
were abandoned because of the excessive costs of protecting staff from 
activists.
Brain Cass, the managing director of the Huntingdon Life Sciences research 
company, based on the outskirts of Cambridge, said the decision to scrap the 
laboratory was a victory for a "very small number of militants".
