AR-News: (US NC) County seizes horses

ARCHDALE - Twenty horses, some standing in stalls where the manure was up to 
their knees, were seized on Saturday by the Randolph County Health Department 
in what was a record equine rescue by the department.
Charges are pending against the property owner, Timothy L. Trotter, 5926 
Poole Road, Archdale, and possibly one other person, authorities say.
Mimi Cooper, health director, said her department was assisted by the N.C. 
Equine Rescue League (NCERL). The league had a veterinarian standing by at a 
quarantine barn in Forsyth County where the horses needing medical attention were 
taken by volunteers. Cooper said at least six horses and possibly up to 10 
were taken to the quarantine barn. The others were taken to a rescue barn near 
Winston-Salem.
Cooper said the health department and NCERL had never had a situation 
involving so many horses.
