ARCHDALE - Twenty horses, some standing in stalls where the manure was up to
their knees, were seized on Saturday by the Randolph County Health Department
in what was a record equine rescue by the department.
Charges are pending against the property owner, Timothy L. Trotter, 5926
Poole Road, Archdale, and possibly one other person, authorities say.
Mimi Cooper, health director, said her department was assisted by the N.C.
Equine Rescue League (NCERL). The league had a veterinarian standing by at a
quarantine barn in Forsyth County where the horses needing medical attention were
taken by volunteers. Cooper said at least six horses and possibly up to 10
were taken to the quarantine barn. The others were taken to a rescue barn near
Winston-Salem.
Cooper said the health department and NCERL had never had a situation
involving so many horses.
