TESCO ACTION ALERT

Stop Tesco-owned supermarkets selling whale meat in Japan !!!!!!!!

Tesco owns 95% of a Japanese supermarket chain, C Two-Network. Research by
the Environmental Investigation Agency has shown that C Two-Network stores
sell whale meat from Japan’s ‘scientific’ whaling, as well as products from
Japan’s coastal hunting of thousands of whales, dolphins and porpoises
(cetaceans).

The sale of these products in C Two-Network stores supports the Government
of Japan’s refusal to abide by the international ban on commercial whaling
and the continued unsustainable exploitation of whales, dolphins and
porpoises in its coastal waters. Tesco must act to stop this immediately.

SAMPLE LETTER / PETITION TEXT

Sir Terry Leahy
Tesco Chief Executive

Dear Sir Terry,

I was shocked to learn that a Tesco group store is selling whale products in
Japan.

As you know, Tesco purchased 95% of C Two-Network, a Japanese supermarket
chain, in July 2003. C Two-Network stores sell canned whale meat from Japan’
s ‘scientific’ whaling, as well as products from Japan’s coastal hunting of
thousands of whales, dolphins and porpoises (cetaceans).

The sale of these products in C Two-Network stores supports the Government
of Japan’s refusal to abide by the international ban on commercial whaling
and the continued unsustainable exploitation of whales, dolphins and
porpoises in its coastal waters. Tesco mu st act immediately to stop the sale
of cetacean products in C Two-Network stores.

I am writing to urge Tesco to persuade C Two-Network to immediately and
permanently stop the sale of all whale, dolphin or porpoise products in all
C Two-Network stores.

Yours sincerely

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP
Clare
