A throwaway grilled porcini mushroom or a Garden Burger appears on many
menus, but if that's the limit of vegetarian options, the restaurant
failed to make the cut for "Veg-Feasting in the Pacific Northwest" (Book
Publishing Co., 2004).To make the list, "menus have a separate vegetarian/
vegan section or a sizable number of non-meat dishes," says Griggs Irving,
co-editor of the just-out 192-page book.
...
The book recognizes the growth in farmers markets, which surpass 170 in
Washington and Oregon. Meat-eaters love those open-air shopping marts as
much as vegetarians and vegans.
...
Find "Veg-Feasting" at Barnes & Noble, online at amazon.com and
powells.com, and eventually at Wild Oats. Check out information on Vegof
Wa.org, the Vegetarians of Washington 's website.

There you can find information about the upcoming VegFest on March 27-28
at Seattle Center. If you go, you'll have a chance to taste about 150
foods that you didn't want to invest in while grocery shopping -- things
like tofu hot dogs and Tofutti ice cream, which Irving claims outshines
any "real" ice creams when served atop a slice of apple pie.
