Word that Ottawa will come up with more compensation for cattle ranchers 
affected by the mad cow crisis is being applauded by Alberta's agriculture 
minister. 
Shirley McClellan says it's been August since Ottawa has done anything, 
adding she has no problem with Ottawa funding any new program alone. 
Last week, she said a federal-provincial aid program introduced last June was 
poorly designed, since it stipulated that farmers had to slaughter their 
cattle by August 31st. 
That forced too many animals into slaughterhouses at the same time, driving 
down prices.
