HARLINGEN, Texas - A longtime crusader for homeless animals in South Texas
is accused by police of neglecting several animals in her care.
Sylvia Elizabeth Cholick, 56, was arrested on Feb. 26 at her Harlingen
home on animal cruelty charges, according to a police report obtained
Monday by the Valley Morning Star under the Texas Public Information Act.
Several animals were removed from the property, including four dogs that
had lost most of their hair, the report said. Two of the dogs later were
euthanized due to their poor health, the report said.
