AR-News: (US-ca)Teen Accused Of Beating Dog, Leaving For Dead

MODESTO, Calif. -- A Modesto dog owner faces serious charges after
allegedly beating a 3-month-old puppy at a park and leaving it for dead.

The puppy, "Sam," was found whimpering Friday in a park garbage can.

"The dog was badly injured. At the time he was taken, the officer didn't
think he was going to survive," said Modesto Police Department spokesman
Sgt. Ed Steele.

Authorities said that, apparently in a fit of rage, 18-year-old Josh
Garcia allegedly dragged the puppy by the tail, threw it against a wall
and against the ground, stomped on it, then threw it into a trashcan.
Witnesses said they saw the alleged beating and were able to save the dog.
