Cheaper feed for livestock 
The biggest beneficiary of Brazil's ambition should be farmers raising 
cattle, pork and poultry. 
Foster Poultry Farms in Livingston, Zacky Farms in Fresno, Harris Ranch in 
Coalinga, Foster Dairy Farms in Modesto and other operations across the state 
use soybeans to encourage animals to gain weight, give more milk and produce 
more eggs. 
California's livestock industry generated $6.97 billion in 2002, and that 
doesn't include money produced and jobs created in related industries. 
"Soybean meal is one of many possible protein sources for cattle, but most 
swine and poultry operations use soybean meal as their primary protein source," 
Karlin said. "As Brazil increases its soybean production, and exports more of 
it, more of the U.S. supply should stay here for the domestic market. That 
certainly favors livestock operations."
