FRESH shrimp will disappear from Bahrain's shops from tomorrow when a
seasonal ban comes into effect. Traders violating the four month ban will face
penalties of up two years in prison and fines of up to BD300.
Fishermen who catch shrimp during the closed season will face the same
penalties and also risk having their boats and equipment confiscated.
The ban is being imposed following a decree issued by Public Commission for
the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife head and Southern
Governor Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
