[opinion from Delaware County Times]
The McDonalds restaurant in Media was jumping at lunch time yesterday.
The parking lot was full and the drive-in line was six cars long when I
pulled in. Inside, the lines at the registers were five deep but moving
nicely. The employees were hustling, filling orders and taking them.
I was not there to eat, though I was hungry. I was there for research
purposes.
Im thinking of joining a class-action lawsuit against McDonalds. Its
food is helping to make me overweight. You might not know it to look at
me, but I am, especially in the "love-handle" department.
...
Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to ban class-action
lawsuits against fast-food joints like Micky Ds. But the ban wont become
law until the Senate also passes the bill and the president signs it. And
even then we can well expect lawyers to litigate the constitutionality of
such a ban.
...
McDonalds has already settled one multi-million-dollar class-action case
involving its fries. It once referred to them on their "vegetarian" menu
when, in reality, they were fried in a combination oil that included beef
fat. Vegans and their lawyers were outraged and put a stop to that deception.
