[from Salt Lake Tribune]

No booze. No smokes. No Whoppers.

That's the "Word of Wisdom" -- if you look to People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals (PETA) for interpretation of LDS scripture.

The animal-rights group put up a colorful billboard at 279 W. 3900 South
near Interstate 15 depicting God holding a staff in one hand and a bunch
of carrots in the other. The sign quotes Verse 15 from the Doctrine and
Covenants' Section 89 (known as the Word of Wisdom): "And [animals] hath
God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger."
Below the citation, it says: "Go Vegetarian!"
...
The Bountiful resident created a Web site, http://www.LDSVeg.org, as an
educational tool for Mormon vegetarians and those considering eliminating
meat from their diets. He reads the Doctrine and Covenants to advise
against eating meat. "If you take Mormon scripture literally, it's pretty
clear," he said.
