How much would you pay for a slice of cheesecake?

Maybe $4.50 at an area restaurant? Perhaps a little more if it was
mouthwateringly delicious, right?

Well, several people who attended the fourth annual Illinois Valley Animal
Rescue auction Saturday paid $37.50 for a slice of IVAR volunteer Heidi Milner’s
cheesecake after it had been bought as a whole for $625 and then donated back
to be resold.

“It was phenomenal because the crowd was real excited,” Milner said. “It was
just a really happy atmosphere.”

More than 200 animals lovers gathered at Peru Eagles Club for the auction,
and the proceeds went straight to the dogs (and cats).

Altogether, the auction pulled in more than $14,000 for the animal shelter to
help with building maintenance costs and the care of the animals in the
shelter, which currently houses about 50 dogs and 100 cats, while many other
animals are in foster care homes throughout the community.
