A museum owner was facing jail today after admitting dealing in endangered
species.
Robert Hudson, whose macabre exhibits ranged from human skulls to a 16” long
mummified crocodile penis, was caught returning from Africa with a string of
skulls from protected animals.
Airport customs men found three belonging to baboons, four to other primates
and one from a turtle.
When his shop and an adjoining museum were searched they discovered a banned
dolphin skeleton hung from the ceiling after apparently eight pints of maggots
were used to strip it of its flesh.
Minutes before his trial was due to begin at London’s Southwark Crown Court
this afternoon he pleaded guilty to three counts of smuggling skulls into
Britain in March last year, and one of acquiring the skeleton for commercial
purposes.
Not guilty verdicts on three denied counts alleging the acquisition and sale
of other primate skulls were entered on the court file.
