AR-News: (US TX) Baldwin Wins 'Meathead' Award from Consumer Group

WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- The Center for Consumer Freedom released its 
annual "Tarnished Halo" Awards which lampoon efforts of environmental and animal 
rights groups such as PETA and the Sierra Club. The group also gave Hollywood 
star Alec Baldwin an award for its "Meathead" category.
Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals 
(PETA), was awarded a "Tarnished Halo" for her support for convicted criminal and 
animal-rights activist Rodney Coronado who has instructed college students how 
to build a firebomb from a milk container. Newkirk called him a "fine young 
man and a school teacher" even though he was arrested for a series of arsons 
set in the early 1990s. PETA gave Coronado $70,000.
The consumer-advocacy group presents such awards each year to "America's most 
notorious animal-rights zealots, environmental scaremongers, celebrity 
busybodies, self-anointed 'public interest' advocates, trial lawyers, and other food 
and beverage activists who claim to 'know what's best for you.'"
