PESHAWAR: An international symposium on the environmental challenges in the 
new millennium will be held at the University of Peshawar. 

The Department of Environmental Sciences is organising the three-day 
symposium beginning on March 11.

Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah will be chief guest at the inaugural 
session of the symposium. More than 150 environmental scientists and experts from 
across the country and abroad will participate in the conference. About 100 
papers were received from experts, of which 50 were accommodated in the 
presentation session while the remaining will be presented in the form of posters. The 
major themes of the symposium are monitoring and evaluation of air, water and 
soil pollution, biodiversity and natural resource management, water-related 
conflicts, application and innovations in environmental technologies, case 
studies of environmental impact assessments and waste management. —Staff Report
