LUCKNOW : For those with a penchant for a trip to the forests, a visit to
Dudhwa National Park is enticing. But the poor condition of roads forces one to
think twice before venturing out.
Given that Uttar Pradesh lost Corbett — a picturesque tiger reserve — to
Uttaranchal, there has been talk of a rejuvenation of Dudhwa and other
sanctuaries to fill the void. One of the biggest impediments however, is the road
network, which is riddled with potholes.
Past experience has shown that though tourists enjoy their stay there, the
bumpy ride is hard to digest. Almost 60 km of the stretch from Lucknow to Dudhwa
particularly the stretch from Lakhimpur Kheri to Dudhwa is unmotorable, and
in urgent need of repair.
But it's not only Dudhwa that needs attention. Nearly 300 km from Lucknow ,
Ranipur sanctuary boasting of wolves, wild dogs, leopard, bears, and 12 tigers
also desperately needs refurbishing. About 40 km of the stretch between
Allahabad and Manikpur is unmotorable.
