AR-News: (Kenya) State holding 30 tons of ivory

The Government is holding a haul of 30 tons of ivory, most of it impounded 
from elephant poachers.
Environment, Natural Resources and Wildlife minister Newton Kulundu said the 
rest of the haulage is from animals that have died of disease and other 
natural causes, and rogue elephants killed by the Kenya Wildlife Service personnel 
as a result of the now rampant human-wildlife conflicts.
At the same time, the minister told an international press conference at the 
end of a regional consultative meeting on ivory trade in Nairobi, that the KWS 
requires an additional 700 rangers to stem the problem of human-wildlife 
conflict
