Adventurer and Electronics king Dick Smith was on Kangaroo Island to
officially open the new Adelaide University Flinders-Baudin Research Centre at
Flinders Chase National Park last week.
Mr Smith talked about his love for Kangaroo Island and it's natural wonders
and the adventurous spirit shared by himself, Matthew Flinders and Nicholas
Baudin before presenting the Research Department with a surprise cheque for
$20,000.
The Flinders - Baudin Research Centre is a new field station for the study of
flora and fauna on Kangaroo Island as well as the investigation of fire and
water resource management.
Researchers will also look into a number of environmental threats such as
feral cats and high numbers of koalas and ecology restoration.
"The centre is a working legacy that builds on the early scientific
contributions of Flinders and Baudin.
