Adventurer and Electronics king Dick Smith was on Kangaroo Island to 
officially open the new Adelaide University Flinders-Baudin Research Centre at 
Flinders Chase National Park last week.
Mr Smith talked about his love for Kangaroo Island and it's natural wonders 
and the adventurous spirit shared by himself, Matthew Flinders and Nicholas 
Baudin before presenting the Research Department with a surprise cheque for 
$20,000.
The Flinders - Baudin Research Centre is a new field station for the study of 
flora and fauna on Kangaroo Island as well as the investigation of fire and 
water resource management.
Researchers will also look into a number of environmental threats such as 
feral cats and high numbers of koalas and ecology restoration.
"The centre is a working legacy that builds on the early scientific 
contributions of Flinders and Baudin.
