SPCA reformers remove 24-year chief in bid to save agency 
State judge upholds internal election that also revamped board of directors

Star-Ledger Staff The longtime president of the embattled New Jersey Society 
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been ousted by reformers who are 
struggling to keep the 135-year-old agency from becoming obsolete. 
Charles Gerofsky, who had fended off past challenges to his control over the 
troubled agency as president and chief agent since 1980, is out of both jobs 
as a result of a Superior Court ruling earlier this week.
