BATHURST — The SPCA in Miramichi has the tough job of finding foster
parents to care for homeless pets while a new shelter is being built.
There is no place between Bathurst and Moncton to house stray animals leaving
many to face a harsh reality in vet clinics.
"We have to say, we've had this one a long time," said veterinarian and SPCA
fostering committee member Elizabeth Hale. "It's really hard but we have to
decide who will be euthanized."
A number of people, including Hale, are working hard to provide the animals
with a new life in a foster home while premanent care is found.
"Most of the time, fostering is used for those special care cases," said
Hale. "Mothers cats with kittens, dogs that have been starved and need that extra
TLC and that extra socialization and care."
