UPPER FREEHOLD — Resident B.A. Handler got tired of hunters near his
property, so he bought some nearby acreage to save wildlife from bullets and arrows.
"I’m a hunter myself, but I respect the animals," he told the Planning Board
at the Feb. 24 meeting. "If you wipe them out, that’s no good either."
Handler said he has had an ongoing problem with hunters and "could not post
the property because it was not mine.
"I want to post it and let the animals have peace," he said.
At the Feb. 24 meeting, the board granted Handler a minor subdivision
lot-line change for the parcel, located west of Rues Road on Route 526.
Handler aims to preserve the environment and protect the area from hunting,
said his attorney, Michael Baline. No construction can be done on the property
because it is wetlands.
There are beaver lodges in the area, which is next to land owned by the
Monmouth County Park System, Handler told the board.
Hunters enter the property the back way, Handler added.
