PORT Macquarie RSPCA branch members have called criticisms about its
euthanasia policies "disgusting" and suggested those people who made them should stop
hiding behind their words.
Spokesman for the Port Macquarie RSPCA branch Mike Bolding said those at
Monday's meeting were disgusted with allegations suggesting the branch was not
doing enough to save animals from the pound on death row.
"They felt the element that did contribute to the story should come out
rather than hiding behind their words," he said.
It follows the attention the branch has gained following allegations aired in
the Port Macquarie News about the amount of animals being euthanased in the
town.
RSPCA NSW manages the Hastings Council pound in Koala St while the Port
Macquarie branch runs the Karungi Crt shelter.
A former branch member claimed in the February 27 article that too many
animals were dying because the RSPCA was not taking on as many from the pound.
