Members of the Oberon district's animal protection group will risk injury to
help animals that are being hit by rally cars.
The group's spokesman, Colin Bardill, says 15 volunteers are determined to go
ahead with protests next month over a night-time motor rally which he says is
killing native animals.
Mr Bardill says the protesters will stake-out the racecourse and assist
injured wildlife so fewer animals die than during last year's rally.
"One particular driver's commented that there'd been 29 of the 35 cars
damaged in some way by coming into contact with an animal," he said.
"They didn't relate the precise number, what had been actually killed, but
obviously a large amount would have been injured.
"Subsequently I complained to the rally people and they wrote a letter to say
just one animal was injured. Now the difference in observation is phenomenal."
